On the occasion of Trieste being this year’s European Capital of Science, EURASF partnered with WEMW (When East Meets West), the unique film industry platform nurturing projects, professionals and initiatives between the East and the West.

After a call for applications amongst EURASF members  (only for producers/filmmakers from this year’s focus countries Hungary, Moldava, Romania, Germany, Austria and Switzerland) looking for more market intelligence and networking opportunities, a delegation of three members from Germany and Austria and one from Italy was selected and invited. One German and the Italian producer were eventually not able to attend, both for urgent family reasons.

Producer and member Sibylle Grunze (Hoppenhaus & Grunze Media) from Germany, Filmmaker, producer (hablo) and chair Wolfgang Haberl from Austria and consultant and vice-chair, Christine Reisen (initiating and organizing the partnership) from France, will be representing the association. Producers, filmmakers and members Dennis Rätzel from Germany and Nicole Leghissa from Italy were invited, but are unfortunately tied up.

Beyond the presence at the different market activities, EURASF has been inviting international participants with a link to science in film to a DRINK & TALK on Sunday night, 19th of January. About 15 professionals (producers, directors, consultants, market executives and commissioning editors) dealing with science films from Italy, Germany, Austria, Poland, France, Hungary and Brazil will connect during an informal meeting.

Wolfgang Haberl and Christine Reisen have also been reaching out to and will hold a meeting with the director and the program manager of the SCIENCE & FICTION FESTIVAL in Trieste (which has also a documentary section - https://www.sciencefictionfestival.org/?lang=en).
